Walking 10000 steps before 10 AM can be a great way to turbocharge your day. But doing so can be a challenge, especially considering that the average American gets between 3,000 – 4,000 steps per day. I’ve made it my goal to hit this number before 10 AM every day. And here are my top three reasons why I aim for walking 10000 steps a day before 10 AM.

One thing I’ll say off the bat is that I dread the moment when my alarm goes off in the morning. It doesn’t matter if I got five hours of sleep or 9 hours of sleep. That blaring sound is disruptive and a reminder it’s time to get up and get moving. Before making walking 10000 steps before 10 AM a part of my routine, I’d carry my sleepy self to the shower, grab some breakfast and much-needed coffee, and get on with it. For the first few hours of the day, the little voice in my head would tell me I’m tired and it’s time for more coffee. This would repeat itself regularly, day after day, week after week.
Until I worked fitness into my morning routine. One thing I noticed from going on jogs in the evening is that I’d be full of energy afterward. In fact, I’d have so much energy that I had to shift my late-night workout routine a few hours earlier to ensure I could get to bed at the proper time. I figured if the jogging gave me energy late at night, it should do the same in the mornings. So, I started walking and jogging earlier in the morning before I had to get ready for whatever it was the day had in store for me.
So, reluctantly, I started setting my glorious alarm clock about 90 minutes earlier in the morning. Doing so was a pain, but it was worth it. Walking a 17-minute mile for 80-90 minutes every morning turbocharges my day. I’m a lot more focused and less dependent on coffee to get me through the day. Not to mention, I’m a lot less stressed about keeping in shape.
It gets my daily dose of physical activity in early on
Over the last couple of years, daily steps have been an important part of my fitness regimen. One thing I’d often stress about is not hitting my daily step goal. This was especially true when I’d be busy with meetings at work or knee-deep in running errands.
By front-loading my day with fitness by walking 10000 steps before 10 AM, I’m taking away a source of stress in my life. Less stress means more time to focus on what’s important.
